“HAUL OUT COMPLETE–BOY OH BOY!”

Well…we are out of the yard after 13 grueling days bringing Blue Moon’s bottom back to acceptable…in fact we went beyond acceptable…we are talking Race Worthy smoothness. Not too many issues to deal with other than years of previous owner neglect. There were a few cosmetic blister issues on the hull…and some reinforcement for the rudder in a few spots…but the hard part of whole ordeal was getting all the old stuff off and prepping the bottom for painting. I decided to throw a barrier coat on–close to 4 coats over the entire hull–and then followed up with 2 coats of good quality and should I say expensive bottom paint to round out the week. Here are a few pics from the week…

Having faired in the motor well on this haul out…my sail back to Sausalito was motor free sailing at its finest. More to come…Blue Moon is back home, happy, and ready for some sailing. The rig will come down after Thanksgiving and I will redo the standing rigging, add a mast head VHF antenna, LED Tricolor, and a Windex.

“MAKING BLUE MOON A BOAT AGAIN”

I have been making a ton of progress on the boat of late. Took almost all the Deck Hardware off and getting it prepped for rebedding. The original ports were shot…so I made up some templates, went to Tap Plastics to have them cut out, and then I installed them yesterday!! Never remove your old ports before a major rain storm…It just isn’t fun! Here are some pics of the progress…

“MISS EMMIE” THE MIGHTY WINDVANE

Just picked up my Windpilot Windvane: For more info on the Vane check out www.windpilot.de for more details. The unit looks great and I can’t wait to install it on Tamara. In the past on other boats I have owned…I have had Monitor windvanes…However for Tamara I think the lighter Vane is a better call..and I have heard good things about how these particular Vanes perform.

THE MESSY BOAT BLUES

Boy…If there is one thing I can not stand is a messy boat. I am currently replacing stanchions, lifelines, stern pulpits to meet the requirements for the Race…New Lifelines, 24 inch Stanchions, and the Stern Pulpit is being raised 6″ so I will have the ability to use my weather cloths….

UP THE RIG

Up the rig to replace the running backs…thought I would take a shot from up there:

Up Above

Lots of stuff to do…Getting ready to pull the old standing rigging off and replacing with new. Tamara is going to be equipped with roughly 100 Watts of Solar and an Air X Wind Generator which needs installing. Also getting ready for the installation of my Wind Pilot Self Steering Gear. Lots of goodies…
