Received a call from the captain this a.m.!

Adam called at 8:39 am and said he’s doing well and they are moving along just fine! Whew! He missed last night’s 9 pm check-in with the SHTP race committee and there was a just a hint of worry here. He sounded happy and busy. It’s reportedly still blowing 25-30 knots out there. Adam was able to make the 9 am check-in this moring, so his SSB radio is working just fine. I plan on hearing from him tomorrow sometime. SIDE NOTE: Received word that S/V Mirage and skipper Ben Mewes had to turn back around 9 pm last night. He was about 60 miles out and had actually caught up to S/V Bandicoot, who was one of the first to fly out the Gate yesterday. Sorry, Ben!! Mirage and Ben made it back around 7 am this morning and they are docked at Schoonmaker Marina in Sausalito working on electrical issues. Their plan is to restart tomorrow morning and catch the late morning ebb.

SHTP began yesterday 06/19/10

Blue Moon was off to a fantastic start yesterday at Corinthian Yacht Club in Tiburon, CA! The gun sounded at 11:30am ish for Blue Moon’s division and the racers tore through the Bay’s waters  (some at record time!) out of the Gate (translation: under the Golden Gate Bridge). Adam and Blue Moon were out the gate in two tacks and about 30 min. It was blowing in the mid 20s to 30s. Photos from the Singlehanded Transpac (from now on to be referred to as ‘SHTP’)are being uploaded to the flickr site asap.
